NATIONAL - MTNA Competitions
State competitions are the entry level to the MTNA Competitions. The state competitions for Illinois are held in the fall at the annual ISMTA Conference. Winners of the state competition advance to the East Central Division Competition in January, representing Illinois. Click below to get more information on the MTNA Competitions.
STATE - ISMTA Competitions
ISMTA Competitions begin at the district auditions for all levels except Collegiate Piano, which is only held at the state level. Illinois is divided into 5 districts with students competing in the district in which the teacher resides. Winners of each district at the Junior and Senior levels will advance to the ISMTA finals held in the fall at the annual ISMTA Conference. The district auditions are held in early-mid October. MTNA Competition and ISMTA Competition are separate competitions and are not connected in any way.
Students may not enter both the MTNA and ISMTA Competitions in the same category in the same year.
LOCAL - Many local associations sponsor competitions and festivals for the students of their members. Often these competitions and festivals offer opportunities for public performances through winners recitals and student recitals. Click below to go to the local association listings.
